Working on Goals
It is easy to find ourselves constantly thinking about goal setting but rarely taking action. Whether it’s improving our nutrition, working on a perfect squat, or trying to stress less about work, it’s easy when life gets busy to lose sight of these objectives. The best thing you can do is give yourself something actionable. Give yourself a task that you can achieve at that moment in time. Making progress isn’t about reaching your end goal, it’s about how you get there and what you learn along the way.
Over the next few weeks we’re going to be taking a look at specific habits, mechanics and movements and how to improve them. This week, we’re focusing on nutrition.
One of the most important aspect of nutrition is logging your food. It ensures accuracy and that you get the right amount of calories and macronutrients per day. Another aspect to this is accountability. The more you log and acknowledge what you’re putting into your body, the more accountable you will be to your diet. Building the habit of logging EVERYTHING you eat will help you in the long run.
Another important piece is hydration. Many of us say we hydrate with 8 glasses of water but will have several cups of coffee/tea a day. Pay attention to everything you’re drinking, not just water. Coffee, tea and alcohol act as a diuretic and actually can dehydrate us. It’s important to ensure we’re drinking enough water to counteract this. For every cup of coffee/tea, try and have two times the amount of water.
Lastly, set goals for yourself. This is where having someone assist you can help with success. We all have a vision for how we want ourselves to feel and look, but don’t necessarily have all of the information available on how to get there. This can feel overwhelming and is the reason many of us feel pressure when working on our nutrition.
