CrossFit Games Season Starts THIS WEEK!

The 2024 CrossFit Games Open is the largest fitness competition on earth and an exciting showcase of the CrossFit community. Here, athletes like you, from all around the world, show up and push themselves further than they ever thought possible over a 3-week period. Challenges, PRs and the unknown await. Every year, thousands of athletes come together to compete in the worldwide, online competition.  After 3 weeks, the top men and women qualify for the next leg of competition CrossFit Games.

People of all ages and ability levels can play, Rx’d or Scaled in the Open. There are age categories that fairly separate athletes and also scaled or RX'd prescribed workout. This option makes the all-inclusive event even more accessible to the masses.  So even if you don't have your first official pull-up, or aren't able to life the prescribed weight yet, or if you are rehab'ing back from an injury, you can still participate for the fun and the spirit of the games.

THE OPEN THREE WEEKS:
  • Week 24.1:       Mar 1st
  • Week 24.2:      Mar 8th
  • Week 24.3:      Mar 15th  Wrap-Up Event Party!

How The CrossFit Open Works:
  1. Register at games.crossfit.com and submit $20 payable directly to CrossFit HQ.
  2. Surprise workouts are released online each week on Thursdays at 3 p.m. EST
  3. Athletes have four days to complete the workout for the week. Complete the workouts at a CrossFit affiliate with a judge, or film your effort from anywhere in the world and submit a link as proof.
  4. Submit your score online before 8 p.m. EST the following Monday. Each athlete has to enter their own scores.

There are 3 divisions to choose from: Rx, Scaled or Foundations. This means even if you just started at FirePower this week, you can play along!

Join Us For FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS!

Team FirePower will use Friday as the main day to perform your workout. This means all classes from 5:30am thru 4:30pm will have the Games WOD as the class wod whether you are officially registered or not. We do this so members who can't join us for FNL have an opportunity to still participate. However we encourage as many members as possible to come to our weekly FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS!!

Use the energy of the room to perform your best, cheer on your friends and other members, watch in awe of our coaches and competitive team athletes performing their wods, and have a beer while you're at it! Yes this is a BYOB event, but as always, please ensure a safe ride home.

For the Friday classes, if you ARE registered for the Open, YOU get to choose what level of the workout you are committing to: Rx/Scaled/Foundations. A judge will be assigned to count your score and ensure you perform the movement standards properly. If you aren't formally registered, you will complete the workout as a regular class without a judge and don't need to enter your score online.

Youth - Advanced Athletes are welcome to join us for FNL however be advised that all Monday youth classes will also be the Open wods!

FNL: Here's what you need to know!

**Each class on Friday will be performing the Games Wod ending with the 4:30pm class. For all classes during the day, a coach will walk through a class warm-up as usual and technique review. For the evening event, athletes are responsible for their own warm-up in the back gym while the games are happening in the front gym. A coach will float around to assist but not lead you through a formal warm-up.

** Starting 5:30pm, we switch gears to "Friday Night Lights" where we turn the gym into the cool place to be with live DJ, cheer squad and more! From 5:45pm to ~7:30pm we run heats of athletes through the workout with various judges.

** HEAT TIMES: We can't tell you what the heat times will be until we learn the surprise workouts on Thursdays. The heats will change based on the duration of the wods, the equipment needed and what our coaches determine as a safe number of athletes per heat for the floor space. We use a GoogleSheet to sign yourselves up for a heat time. The link is below. If you are new this year, please ask a coach or admin staff for clarification on the heats. We do our best to explain it in the document but let us know if you need help!

**if you can't complete the Open workout on Friday, you may do it on Sunday during Open Gym time 10:30am to 11:30am for members who haven't completed the workout yet. If you are choosing to re-do the workout, you will need to arrange to have a judge count for you.

TIME TO CELEBRATE!

This is a fun and inspiring few weeks for our members, whether you are participating for fun, for a challenge or for a chance to qualify onward. The most important element is to cheer for your fellow athletes! Encouragement and support can be the difference between someone getting their first pull up or muscle-up, or llifting that elusive PR weight!

Spirit of The Games - each week coaches will nominate/vote on the person they feel gave the best effort on or off the floor!

For the finale of 24.3 (the 3rd week), we will end with a pizza-party.  Keep an eye on SugarWod and the members FB page for details.
