What Team Are You On?

We all play on Team FirePower

FirePower has a long history of teamwork. For all our years in the CrossFit Games, we’ve never had an individual athlete qualify for Regionals.  Their individual scores simply didn’t meet the cut-off.  So how is it that we grew to be one of the top teams in Canada East? Through solid teamwork.

Remember your first CrossFit or boxing class?

The fear of joining a group of people atFirePower who you thought were all perfect and capable except you?  Then one day it’s a partner exercise or worse, a team workout!  I bet you felt like back in high school again, worried you’d be last to be picked; many of you secretly asking yourself, ‘who'd want to work with me?’; or apologizing to your teammates for your lack of comparative skills.

My guess is you didn’t die that day. My guess is you had a pretty good workout, maybe even a little fun and even worked harder than usual. That’s the magic of teamwork.

As an adult, whether you ‘like’ being on a team or not, your life is ALL ABOUT teamwork.  You and your coworkers are your team, your family is a team, you and your spouse are a team. Even your class every day at the gym is a team working together for the hour under the coach's leadership.  We have teams competing this weekend in BeachWod, World Cup Teams from your own livingrooms, your nutrition team, and our coaching team.

The success of the team depends on every member’s level of effort, not just skill.

Even when you’ve played the game of your
life, it’s the feeling of teamwork that you’ll remember. You’ll forget the
plays, the shots, and the scores, but you’ll never forget your teammates.

Deborah Miller Palmore

Teamwork requires
– to feel you have value and something to offer, even if you are working on a new skill;
– to stick with it during hard challenges;

– to step up, do your best and be brave; and
– to practice and get better and be reliable when its your turn.

You don’t have to be the best one on the team all the time, you simply have to try your best alongside everyone else.  Whether it’s in CrossFit class, a competition, at home, or at work… be reliable, be dependable, always give your best effort, and carry each other when needed.

Be proud of your team. Be the change for your team.

We all play for Team FirePower.
